Unorthodox Jukebox O.
The UNORTHODOXJUKEBOX O. improvisation orchestra for contemporary & avant-garde music is a collectiv currently consisting of 23 musicians divided into 5 instrumental sections.
In 2016, Marco von Orelli, Benjamin Brodbeck and Kaspar von Grünigen had the idea of bringing together various improvising micro-scenes in Basel to form something larger and organized a spontaneous gathering. The cross-generational orchestra UNORTHODOXJUKEBOX O. developed from this.
The orchestra members come from all corners of the Basel music scene: new music, jazz, improvised music, electronic music, early music, experimental pop, contemporary music theatre...
The wealth of musical experience is also the concept of UJB O. - the collective is at the centre and so since summer 2017 they have been working on various ideas: Space, shaping time, sonority, no rules of the game or strict compositional rules. But the most important factor remains the living organism:
UNORTHODOXJUKEBOX O. is the sum of its parts, but also a particle accelerator: the individual voice always remains audible.
